Biographical note

The Casa de Maternidad (officially also the Hospital de Maternidad e Infancia) was founded by the Emperor Maximilian of Hapsburg [1832-67] under the patronage of the Empress Charlotte on 7 June 1865 and inaugurated on 7 June 1866. The documents marked * were printed by León (1910) at pp. 305-360, according to which a similar institution had been set up under Benito Juárez c. 1862. The history of the Hospital (no. 26 below) was drafted by Ramón F. Pacheco Rodríguez [1837-1915]. Director 1867-70.
