About this work

Description

This volume contains minutes of meetings of the Board of Directors, and minutes of the EGMs and AGMs of the company. Meetings of the board took place monthly at most times, but at other times there were longer gaps (of up to six months or so) between meetings. The frequency of meetings often depended on whether there was a particular activity or project which the company was pursuing.

Matters discussed at meetings included the administration of the company and the board, statutory matters, the financial position of the company and distribution of profits, relations with other companies (often in the Coopers family), and particular products and manufacturing arrangements. These often included discussions on the company's Yalding (Kent) premises (shared with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Ltd). The acquisition and development of a Horticultural research and development centre is often mentioned in the mid-1940s.

There is an index at the front of this volume.

The company appears to have been a joint venture between Cooper McDougall & Robertson Ltd, and ICI. Some copies of minutes have been stamped to indicate that they were from the Managing Director's Office (at Coopers).

On pp. 6-7 an idea of the products marketed by the company is given. A full list of "agreement" products does not appear. It is likely that the company marketed agricultural pesticides, insecticides and other agricultural products.

On p. 28 it is noted that more orders being received has necessitated an increase in office staff at the company's Yalding (Kent) plant.

The use of the brand name 'ABOL' on the products of the company is discussed on p. 32.

The company's acquisition of trade marks for use in the UK is noted on p. 56.

Air Raid Precautions for the Yalding plant are noted on p. 61.

The contribution of the company towards the drive to grow more food during wartime, and the loss of production time at the company's factory due to air raid warnings, are noted on pp. 94-95.

p. 160 is blank.

pp. 208-209 are blank.

On p. 221 congratulations are noted for E M Fraser, board member, who been awarded the CBE for serving as Director-General of Aircraft Production during the war.
