About this work

Description

Papers relating to Conning Tower, Poole, Dorset, including photographs and visitor books.

Between 1954 and 1994, the Wellcome Foundation owned and ran Conning Tower, a property originally envisioned as a recuperation facility for Wellcome Foundation staff, but which in time also acted as a guest house for company pensioners.

It closed in 1994 after the Wellcome reviewed its indirect costs, and judged Conning Tower to be unnecessary given existing benefits to Wellcome pensioners.
