Biographical note

Cricket was played at Crichton Royal Institution in 1862 and in 1881 a new cricket ground was created. The ground was completed and opened in 1882 and regular fixtures were held between the Crichton team and others, including other visiting hospital teams. In 1887 a professional cricket player was hired as an attendant to improve the team's match performance.
