SHUMWAY, M.D.^ OE PHILADELPHIA. The following case of extensive tuberculosis of the choroid has Ix'ertain features of clinical and pathological interest which render Hit worthy of record. Catherine H., colored, born January 8, 1900, was admitted to :the Shelter for Colored Orphans of Philadelphia on February 4, 11902, and was examined in the Dispensary for Diseases of the Eye dn the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania on the 5th of .-April, 1904. History.—For the history of the case we are indebted to Dr. hWilliam Evan,s, the physician in charge of the Shelter for Colored ^Orphans. The patient's father is living and well; the mother died lof pneumonia; two sisters axe residents of the Home and both are lafflicted with tubercular glands. From the date of the patient's laadmission she was weak and complained much of headache, had a Irpoor appetite and frequently vomited. About one year prior to her [ visit to the University Ho,spital it was noticed that the right eye- Iball was more prominent than the other. This prominence gradu- laally increased until the condition presently to be described ob- Irtained. As the time wore on, the patient's general symptoms be- locame more pronounced; emaciation increased, her joints, espe- I'cially the knee joints, became swollen and painful, giving the im- Ivoression of a tubercular process. She could not retain solid food.
