Incomplete series, relating to the relationship between the Wellcome Foundation and animal rights groups.

No cuttings years between 1972 and 1978.

1970: Article from Beckenham Advertiser, 8 October 1970: 'No yelps from the dogs, no squeals from the mice…at the labs where research saves lives'.

1971: Letters and articles re launch of rubella vaccine 'Almevax' by Burroughs Wellcome, and criticism of its production by the National Anti-Vivisection Society. Includes letters published in The Times and the Bristol Evening Post

1979: 2 copies of article by Dr M Weatherall, Wellcome Research Laboratories, 'Undue weight given to animal testing', December 1979. Also, cuttings re a protest in Bromley by Animal Aid, against the Wellcome Research Laboratories, February 1979.

1980: Includes cuttings from the Kent Messenger and Kent Evening Post re Wellcome Foundation funding for a campaign supporting animal experimentation, October 1980; cuttings from the Dartford local papers re the daubing of paint on the home of a Wellcome Foundation employee's home by the Animal Liberation Front, April 1980; cuttings from The Guardian: 'Test tubes reduce animal testing' and 'How should we protect animals which we use to protect us'

1981: Includes cuttings from the Beckenham & Penge Advertiser, giving arguments for and against the use of animals in research at the Wellcome Research Laboratories and cutting from the New Scientist, 'First shots in new campaign to save animals from experiments', launch of new campaign by FRAME (Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments).

1982: Includes cuttings from local newspapers on the daubing of paint on the homes of scientists employed by the Wellcome Foundation by the Animal Liberation Front

1983: Includes cuttings from local newspapers on damage to property of scientists employed by the Wellcome Foundation by the Animal Liberation Front.

1983: Includes cuttings from national newspapers on damage to property of six Wellcome Research Laboratories scientists by the Animal Liberation Front (the reports state that a petrol bomb was thrown at the garage of Sir John Vane, Research Director); and copies of press release from the Wellcome Foundation and a news release from the Home Office re the incidents.
