Description

Photograph of a painting of Jan de Doot (fl.1655) Dutch blacksmith, painted in 1655 by Carel van Savoyen. De Doot is said to have successfully performed a lithotomy on himself in 1651. The photograph was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum at an exhibition held as part of the International Congress for the History of Medicine 1927. The photograph was accessioned by the Museum in 1929 (accession number PHO 304)
