Improvements in the Treatment of the Disulphones for Medicinal Purposes. I, George Lunan Pharmaceutical Chemist, 35 George Street Edinburgh, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows :— A process to render the action of the disulphones, such as sulfonal, tetronal, trional &c., active. The process which is applicable to any of the members of this 5 group consists in dissolving them in chloroform, ethylic alcohol, petroleum ether or any other of their powerful solvents, distilling off the said solvents at a low temperature, whereby the substances are left in an amorphous condition. The powders thus prepared are afterwards acted on by hydrocarbon oils, including the whole range of petroleum oils and other oleaginous solvents such as olive oil, 10 almond oil castor oil &c. Dated this 18th day of November 1889. GEORGE LUNAN, 35, George Street, Edinburgh. COMPLETE SPECIFICATION. 15 Improvements in the Treatment of the Disulphones for Medicinal Purposes. I, George Lunan, Pharmaceutical Chemist 35 George Street Edinburgh do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following 20 statement:— This invention relates to the improvement in the treatment of all the disulphones including sulphonal or sulfonal, trional, tetronal, &c. so as to render them more soluble and certain in their physiological action ; and for which provisional protection was granted me 19th November 1889, No. 18434. 25 It consists in adopting a process or processes for rendering these materials amorphous, attained by processes hereafter described ; and the action on the drugs thus prepared of semisolvents or partial solvents useful to render them assimilable and as a vehicle for exhibition for medicinal purposes. In order that my invention may be more readily understood, I give details of the 30 general operation for these improvements. The process consists in dissolving the sulfonal or any of the disulphones in any of their more powerful solvents such as chloroform, ether, ethylic alcohol, petroleum ether &c. removing the drug in a prepared condition by precipitation with water, or the solvent by distillation or evaporation »o as to leave the disulphone operated on in 35 an amorphous condition ; acting on either or any of the drugs thus prepared with any oleaginous solvent hereafter named, or while still in solution allowing the operation of olive oil, castor oil, hydrocarbon or petroleum oils or jellies or any oleaginous solvent whatever in conjunction with which the disulphones are then conveniently exhibited with an improved activity for medicinal purposes. 40 This may be done either enclosed in a flexible gelatine capsule or in any membrane of any material suitable for the purpose, or in any other way suitable for the prepared drugs.
