Pharmaceutical Labels

Contains product labels and packing for Burroughs Wellcome & Co (BW&Co) products, dating from 1883-1888.

As BW&Co was only established in 1880, the labels for the products found here, are those on which the firm established itself. They include: Kepler Malt Extract, Burroughs Beef & Iron Wine and Lanoline Soap.

Packaging and labels in non-English languages show how BW&Co was already branching out into overseas markets.

The Guard Book is indexed at the front of the volume. For details of abbreviations / terms please see series description for Circulars.

The volume has been conserved, items have been removed from the original guard books and remounted in sleeves and ringbinders. This enables researchers to easily read items (front and reverse) without damage to the original. The original order has been retained. Each item has a small pencil number in the corner giving the original page number.

Should readers wish to consult items which are folded (such as folded leaflets or pamphlets) they must approach the Poynter Room Supervisor first.
