Notes

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "This early 20th century photo postcard of the Castel Porziano Discobolos (a 2nd Century AD Roman marble copy of mid-5th century BC Greek bronzo original by Myron) is typical of the type of postcard that was collected by gay men in the times before intentionally homoerotic iconography was freely available. Images of Greek statuary had a particular resonance for gay men in western society from the middle of the nineteenth century on, as a reminder of a time when same-sex love was not only tolerated, but encouraged – the so-called 'Greek love'."
This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
