About this work

Description

On the certificate, the company's name is incorrectly given as 'Morris Little & Coy'. Certificate is numbered Watford 117.

The certificate was issued as part of a government campaign to encourage the employment of ex-servicemen who had been injured while fighting in the First World War. The employment of ex-servicemen was a major political issue in the years after the war, with high unemployment proving an intractable problem.
