Description

Correspondence mainly re HSW's commissioning of a survey trip by the artist to Western Canada and Alaska to visit the principal American Indian tribes for the purpose of painting portraits and making records of the 'best surviving types', especially important chieftains, medicine men, etc, between 1 Dec 1931 and 1 Dec 1932, with list of tribes and areas marked out on maps by Langdon Kihn. Also includes papers of US Department of Interior detailing Indian lands, allotments and property, and Annual Reports of the Board of Indian Commissioners to the Secretary of the Interior, 1922/23 and 1923/24
