Description

Photograph of an oil painting of William Battie (1703-1776), English physician and writer of A Treatise on Madness, on mental illness. The painting was acquired at auction from Robinson & Fisher on 19th November 1925, Lot 47, accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum (CC 3648) and displayed in the Wellcome Institute, but is now held by the Royal College of Physicians, London.
