Correspondence on varying subjects filed alphabetically mainly by surname of correspondent or by organisation name, but occassionally by subject. Where correspondence is with or relates to an individual or organisation whose initials match those found in the file title, names and subject of correspondence are not given here. However, where correspondence is filed by subject and its location may be unclear, details are given. Correspondence relates both to professional matters, and to more social aspects of Ashton's professional life, such as communication with individuals who are both fellow professionals and friends.
