Description

Miscellanies collected by Edward John Waring, October 1838/9. Author's holograph MS. Waring (C.L.) Essays. 1835, 1836. A commonplace book containing extracts and notes on medicine, science, and literary history. At the end of the entries are a number of small pasted-in, cut-down engravings of British coins and coats of arms. Bound in after these are 60 ll. preceded by a note by E. J. Waring: 'The follow[ing] essays were written by my brother Charles Lamplugh Waring, a true Christian, a dutiful son, an affectionate brother. He departed this life aged 23.' The essays, which are holograph, are on the solar system-illustrated with pen-drawn diagrams, the steam engine, and on various literary and philosophical subjects.
