Chain's connection with Hindustan Antibiotics arose from his service on the Expert Committee on Antibiotics of the World Health Organisation (q.v.) and through the training facilities offered by his laboratory. Some of the Indians who came to work in Rome continued to correspond with Chain for several years after their return with news of progress in the factory and accounts of their own research.
