The earlier draft of the 'Essai' may have been written even before the date suggested above as the republican calendar is used. The second draft, which is apparently incomplete, uses the ordinary calendar. There are also two drafts of the note on cemeteries, each of 2 ll., in the first of which the date 1829 is found.
