About this work

Description

24 September, 1917. Specification in the names of Sir Richard Ashmole Cooper and Karl B Edwards [Director of Laboratory Staff].

Sent to Charles Timson with a covering letter (18 October) from Edwards: "The whole matter is interesting, inasmuch as this material is being burnt to-day by the shale oil producers, and, in my opinion, the patent should be taken in the States and Canada. The whole of the investigation is simply an example of applied logic and is the finish of about seven years hard thinking and experiment on my part. Until after the War we cannot persuade the shale oil companies in Scotland to sell us their waste products, but then there is a chance of doing good work."
