Biographical note

An early middle aged woman who had been in a psychiatric hospital for many years. She was incontinent and often in a state of undress. After undergoing a modified leucotomy in the 1940s she began to attend Rita Simon's art therapy sessions. She was very interested in painting right from the beginning, although giddy from the anaesthetic. She eventually left the hospital to work in her family's hairdressing business.

This information is taken from conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.
