There have been many meetings about the genetic code during the past ten or twelve years but this is the first^one at which lias been held since the gonotio- code became -s-eairï;y known. When I came to the States^in tftusu hYvH^ 3^/^PigA>f 1965 I with me tentative allocations for many of rwuMi the 64 triplets^based^on the early work of Leder and Rirenberg^ ffc' Y&ksiJju) (íVVk Ifcú Vú*uh/\k pi) (¿7 ^and the mutagenesis data. I telephoned Marshall Nirenberg, who told me of his latest allocations. A little later I saw G-obind k«r Khorana and heard the results tUasKfc he was getting using polymers with repeating sequences. I also visited George Streis^inger and was told about the preliminary amino acid sequences due to phase shift in the phage lysozyme.
