Correspondence refers specifically to the announcement (War Emergency Circular No. 226, 16 April 1945) of the inclusion of penicillin salts in a list of "medicines of an exceptionally costly character" to be subject to Purchase Tax. Within six months, the regulation was modified (see Press Notice Purchase Tax, 13 October, 1945).
