In its original blue presentation box, an acrylic block encasing logo: Crown surmounting industrial design. Text on block: "The Queen's Award for Technological Achievement 1990".
Award conferred upon the Wellcome Research Laboratories, in recognition of "the development of a manufacturing process for the anti-HIV compound Retrovir (zidovudine)" - the first antiviral drug with "proven benefit to those with HIV infection".
