Reorganisation of nursing in Roehampton

Originally catalogued as 'Drawings of mosaics from Roehampton', the file in fact contains correspondence and papers relating to the withdrawal of Wolfson School of Nursing (Westminster) student nurses from Roehampton.

The Wolfson School of Nursing, Westminster, had student and pupil nurses in training, of which 200 were allocated to the old Roehampton Division of the Westminster Group of Hospitals. After NHS reorganisation in 1974 hospitals in this Division (Queen Mary, Roehampton, Putney, and St John' Hospital, Battersea) became administered by Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Area Health Authority. Until new training arrangments could be made the hospitals remained dependent on the nursing services provided by the Wolfson School. From mid-1974 informal discussions with officers of Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth AHA commeced regarding the planned withdrawal of student nurses from Roehampton District. Also involved the GNC.

The correspondence is mainly between the Area Nursing Officers of Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth AHA and Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster AHA, and AHA chairmen and administrators, regarding implementation of the gradual withdrawal and practical arrangements.
