Biographical note

After being a student of Owen's College, Manchester, the author obtained his M.D. at Cambridge in 1892, having studied also in Germany and in France. In the same year he was appointed to the Chair of Pathology and Bacteriology at McGill University, Montreal. He was A.D.M.S. to the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in 1914-1918, and had been elected F.R.S. in 1905. [see the Dictionary of National Biography].
