About this work

Description

Correspondence concerning the prosecution of Dols & Co Ltd, of Huddersfield, under the Milk Act of 1875. Includes a letter to Wellcome Foundation from the Chairman of Dols & Co Ltd, manufacturer of composite drinks tablets (tea/sugar/milk and coffee/sugar/milk), who is summonsed to appear at Bradford Court following local analysis of the tablets showing that their fat content is insufficient by law. He requests the assistance of "one of your chemists to give evidence." The request is denied ("in the prevailing conditions it is quite impracticable"), and Dr Jowett confirms, by internal memorandum, that "the Milk Powder which we employ in the preparation of Tabloid Milk contains the full amount of cream". The file includes two labels from Dold & Co Ltd.
