Carr's introduction refers to the acquisition of CMR by the Wellcome Foundation as "the most important milestone in the history of our Company since the amalgamation of the Cooper, McDougall and Robertson businesses in the mid-twenties ... The time has now come for the Foundation and ourselves to review the business of Coopers with its strengths and manifest weaknesses, to assess the opportunities and hazards in the various fields in which it is engaged, and for decisions to be taken so far as is sensible and practicable as to our future in these fields and our role within the Wellcome Group."
