The Jenner Trust was formed in 1966 to celebrate the life and work of Edward Jenner and to ensure that the public continue to be aware of his contribution to mankind. A small museum was also set up in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, with Jenner memorabilia. Aim of the Jenner Appeal (joint endeavour of the Jenner Trust and British Society for Immunology) was to purchase The Chantry, Berkeley, (where Jenner lived and died), from the Gloucester Diocesan Parsonages Board and refurbish it as a permantent memorial to Jenner with historical, intellectural and educational functions. Initial trustees included Sir Peter Medawar, Professor Rodney Porter and Professor Sir William Paton. Total funds sought was £500,000.
