About this work

Description

11 letters, September 1921-December 1923, and one letter c.October 1933.

The earlier letters, many enclosed in Michael Chain's business envelopes, are mainly personal and include reference to family affairs following Michael Chain's death, school, musical and political activities. Chain was strongly left-wing at that time.

The last letter, from Britain, describes how Chain is able to send some money home, and still expresses a strongly left-wing reaction to 'bourgeois' England. Most of the envelopes have a date, number and a note of content by L. Sisisky (on verso). The summaries of content attached to the letters were provided by U. Horstmann in June 1982
