LEPRA Prize Essay Competition began in 1972 for Oxford students only, and it remained this way until 1975 when the field was widened. Gives details of the competition each year and those who entered;
1972 - "The Pathogenesis of Leprosy" - 7 entries (Oxford only); 1st Mr. R.W. Simpson of Balliol College (£35); 2nd Miss J. Lickerman of St. Anne's College (£25); 3rd Mr. John Low of St. Peter's College (£15); Judges - Dr. R.J.W. Rees, Dr. Graham Weddell, & Dr. A.C. McDougall;
1973 - "The Transmission of Human Leprosy" - 9 entries (Oxford only): 1st Miss Celia Moss (£70) (Published in Leprosy Review - when?****; 2nd Miss Cynthia Butlin (£30); 3rd Mr. Christopher Martin (£10); Judges - Dr. R.J.W. Rees, Dr. Graham Weddell, & Dr. A.C. McDougall;
1974- "Cellular and Humoral Immunity in Leprosy" - 3 entries (Oxford Only): 1st Mr. John Dart (£100) (Published in a shortened form in the Oxford Medical School Gazette -Michaelmas edition); Consolation prize of £10 to Mr. G.J. Steenbergen who was not eligible (as he wasn't a UK medical student) but who wrote a fine essay; Judges - Dr. R.J.W. Rees, Dr. Graham Weddell, & Dr. A.C. McDougall;
1975 - "A current problem in the diagnosis, treatment, epidemiology or control of leprosy": 3 entries (Edinburgh only); Joint 1st Mr. R.A.S.
