Biographical note
Project description:This project researches and promotes the contributions of Alfred Russel Wallace to the theories of natural selection and evolution. On the first joint reading of the Wallace and Darwin papers on natural selection, London, 1 July 1858, the two men were given equal status and recognition. Much media attention will be given to Charles Darwin in 2008 and 2009. History has favoured Darwin whilst Wallace has faded from the popular history of scientific thought. The project will generate artworks, publications and activities which reinstate Wallace as a major contributor to the ideas and processes which explain how species gradually change to to create new types of beings.
