    SANITARY CONDITION OF SCHOOL PREMISES. i Only minor alterations to the sanitation of school premises have been carried out during the year, and have mainly consisted of maintenance ot fabric and improvements to drainage and ventilation. The school premises are under the supervision of the School Buildings Inspector, Mr. W. Sargeant. Advantage is also taken of the visits of the Assistant School Medical Officers, who report on the general sanitary condition of each school at the time of medical inspection. The new buildings to house the Infants’ School at Faringdon were completed by the Education Committee early in the year and occupied in April. The school was built to the plans of the Buildings Inspector and the erection carried out under his supervision. The walls are constructed of hollow cement blocks and the roof is of asbestos slate. I had hoped it might be possible to insert sliding panels in the outside wall of each class¬ room, so as to allow unimpeded ventilation in warm weather, but this was found impracticable owing to the extra cost involved. However, hoppers are provided at the bottom of all windows, and in addition the remainder of the window area can be opened to a right angle by screw levers acting in a horizontal direction on centrally hung sashes. Heating is effected by low pressure hot water pipes and radiators. The accommodation is for 120 children. A play shed and a paved area are provided in the playground for games and physical exercises. In addition to the School Medical Officer, there are two whole-time Assistant School Medical Officers, three whole-time School Nurses and three nurses whose work includes the duties of Health Visitor as well as School Nurse.
