William Carleton Gibson was a Canadian neuropathologist. After the Second World War, and his work for the Canadian Air Force, he became Professor of Neurological Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Later he became Professor of the History of Medicine. In 1978 he was appointed Chairman of the Universities Council, Vancouver. He wrote a biography of Sir Charles Sherrington and saved a portrait of William Harvey from being permanently lost to the USA. He worked as an advisor to the Wellcome Foundation (on the Wellcome Trust Panel on the History of Medicine), New College Oxford (where he did his post-graduate training under Sherrington), the Medical Society of London and the Harveian Society of London.
