Biographical note

Following the termination of his appointment in the Department for Research in Ophthalmology, Royal College of Surgeons, Fraser accepted an invitation to the University of Adelaide from Henry Bennett, who had been a Ph.D. student of R.A. Fisher’s while Fraser was an undergraduate. Fraser arrived in Adelaide in January 1966. Some weeks later, he was informed of a vacancy which had been made available at the University of Leeds by John Fincham. He applied for this post, stating that he would only become available at the end of 1967 when his initial two-year contract in Adelaide was to come to an end. He was then made aware of opposition to his appointment. Unwilling to be a controversial candidate, Fraser withdrew his application.
