Biographical note

In March 1977, at the IEA Council meeting, the need for an official archivist and repository for the Association's records was discussed. The meeting formally agreed to appoint John Pemberton, IEA co-founder, as archivist and to idenitify a suitable site for the records to be kept.

Until 1990, the IEA records were stored at the King's Fund Centre, 126 Albert Street, London NW1 7NF, but maintained by the archivist. In 1994, the archive was transferred to Wellcome Library.

The IEA Archivist is responsible for collecting the archival material approved by Council and ensuring its deposit; s/he is responsible to the President and Council, but is not a Council member. S/he is appointed by Council for an initial period of 6 years and, thereafter, for a rolling period renewed every 3 years.
