Biographical note

In 1933 Bowlby began as a Clinical Assistant at the London Clinic of Psycho-analysis. In 1937 he became an Associate Member of The British Psycho-analytical Society, reading his first paper and being elected a full member in 1939, and was Secretary of the Training Committee during the controversies of the 1940s. From 1944-1961 Bowlby was either a Member of Council and/or an Officer of the Society: Member of Council, 1944-1948; 1951-1954; 1956-1957; 1958-1961 Training Secretary 1944-1947 Deputy President 1956-1957; 1958-1961.
