About this work

Description

Papers re doubtfully worded legacies to cancer research; the contesting of wills by the Campaign and the ICRF; efforts of the two bodies in the 1950s to come to an arrangement for dividing undefined legacies; the Campaign's decision to change its name to the British Empire Cancer Campaign for Research in 1963 in order to strengthen its legal position; and a breakdown in arrangements in the 1960s. Includes correspondence with the ICRF, memoranda, and solicitor's opinions as to the Campaign's position.

(In most cases where legacies were left for 'cancer research' the courts ruled in favour of the ICRF. The issue was a source of much controversy between the two organizations. See also A.28; F.1/21)
