The manifesto, announcing the Chinese willingness to treat for a peaceful solution to the 'Opium Wars', was originally published in the Friend of China 10 Sept [1842]. The wrapper identifies J. R. Morrison as the author of the statement whilst attached to British forces during the campaigns of 1840-42
