Description

Reproduction (photograph) of an oil painting portrait of William Hunter (1718-1783), Scottish anatomist and physician, in his study. The original oil painting is attributed to R. Hamer [although it is not listed in Benezit Dictionary of Artists], and probably based on the engraving by T. Thomson after the portrait now in the Royal College of Physicians, attributed to Robert Edge Pine. The reproduction was acquired for the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1936 is from a photograph lent by Professor John Fulton, Yale University.
