    The Directors, in their last Report, stated that they had had their attention turned, for some years past, to the dan¬ gerous state of the laundry, and the benefits to be derived by erecting a new one. They have now to report that, in the beginning of the present year, they entered into contracts to build a laundry and wash-house on a piece of ground in the garden adjoining the walls of the two northmost airing couits on the female or east wing The whole range of building’, including offices, &c., is now completed in a satisfactory man¬ ner, and promises to realize all the advantages which they anticipated from it. The old laundry will be turned into stores, or otherwise made use of to the best advantage. There has also been erected a corridor along the east wall of the female airing court, directly leading to the new laundry, and connected with the old corridor which runs in a different direction. This was urgently called for by a regard to the health of the working female patients, as by its means they are enabled to go to and from the laundry, in all weathers, under suffi¬ cient protection ; and at the same time it adds to the com¬ fort of the others, during their hours of exercise in the open air. In the north female ward an alteration has been made which has been found very useful. The day room in that ward had long been complained of as too small: To obviate this incon¬ venience, the Directors have taken down the partition be¬ tween it and the bed rooms adjacent, and thrown the whole into one. These different improvements have been executed at a cost of about £1000,—a sum which, though large, yet, considering the great additional accommodation, the safety and security afforded, the additional means of employment allowed, and many other advantages, the Directors have no doubt the Meetino- will consider with them that it has been well lai out. t. .
