Description

In 1971, Tyrrell gathered materials for a history of the Common Cold Unit to be written by Christopher Andrewes. The account was to include a history of the Red Cross Hospital and its subsequent conversion to a research unit.

After Tyrrell's retirement and the closure of the CCU in 1990, Tyrrell began to collect materials for a book on the history of the common cold, contacting past staff and volunteers at the CCU for their recollections. In order to research and write the book, Tyrrell moved to the Centre for Applied Microbiology and Research (CAMR), Porton Down.
