About this work

Description

An artwork by Physical Illness Patient 5 - "Bob" which shows a white grave with the word 'LIVE' on it to the left, surrounded by purple flowers. On the right there is a brightly coloured shape - possibly a mandorla and between these two there are drops of blood. Rita Simon said: "The two halves of the painting show two different attitudes of mind. He painted at home. He talked freely about his feelings."

The quote above was taken from conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

The title has been taken from an inscription on the verso of the painting.

Rita Simon classified this artwork as Linear Transition on the verso of the artwork and marked it as number 3 in the sequence.
