    A ^ 21,904 A.B. 1902 Date of Application, 8th Oct, 1902 Complete Specification Left, 8th July, 1903—Accepted, 27th Aug., 1903 PROAISIOiN^AL SPECinCATIOA. “A New Serum and the Method of Preparing the same’' Professor William Philipps Dua^bap, of Jungiusstrasse, Hamburg, in the Empire of Germany, Doctor of Medicine and Director of the Hj^gienic Institute of Hamburg, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: — This invention relates to the preparation of serums and is based upon the fact that the pollen grains of certain plants have the property of inducing symp¬ toms of illness in many persons. The indention consists in causing the incorporation of pollen grains or consti¬ tuents of the same in animals and thereby introducing substances into the blood of these animals which are adapted to remove or nullify the prejudical action of the pollen grains. Thus, for example, the inventor has succeeded, by means of the pollen grains of grasses (gramineae) in inducing in certain persons the symptoms of what is called hay-fever and in subsequently removing these symptoms by means of a serum obtained from the blood of animals which have been inoculated with the pollen grains of gramineae. i5 Dated this 8th day of October 1902.
