George Pellew, Dean of Norwich

Letter to unidentified correspondent, received Mar 1837, referring to a present of books including a work on "the animal economy", which he is "quite delighted with", as it reminds him of anatomical lectures he attended while at Oxford, while telling him a good deal more. He also expresses his opinions about "the inadequacy of medical attendance provided" under the New Poor Law (1834) and his views on how this should have been carried into effect - "in accordance rather with the spirit of Christianity, than with the strict letter of the law".

George Pellew, third son of Edward Pellew, first Viscount Exmouth (1757–1833), was educated at Eton and Corpus Christi College Oxford and then entered the Church. He published many sermons and tracts, and in 1847 The Life and Correspondence of Addington, First Viscount Sidmouth, his father-in-law. There is an entry for him in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
