Dear Professor Ris , Thank: you very much for the reprint of your paper in the Sixth European Congress on Electron Microscopy, 1976 proceedings. I am sorry that it turns out we are using the term unit fiber for our 4ooo  fiber, which you have already used for the loo a nucleofilament, hut I hope that it will not create too much con fusion, I was very interested to read your discussion of chromonema which could possibly correspond to our isolated unit fibers from isolated mitotic chromosomes. I managed to put in a reference to your paper in our Cold Spring Harbor Symposium manuscript which we have just completed and I hope that the reference is correct. We would be grateful for copies of further papers in this area if availaole. Especially I would be grateful for any further information concerning the folding of the 2oo - 3oo j thick fiber to give rise to chromonema. June 27, 1977
