Biographical note
Dr James Crichton of Friars Carse died on 3 May 1823, leaving detailed instructions for the distribution and settlement of his estate, including the appointment of five Trustees to carry out his wishes which are outlined in the Trust Disposition and Deed of Settlement which is found in Sederunt Book, DGH1/1/1/2. The five appointed Trustees were James Crichton's widow, Mrs Elizabeth Crichton; his brother in law, Captain William Grierson Esq; his neighbour, Charles Johnston Esq. Younger of Cowhill, his brother, John Crichton Esq. and writer, Thomas Manners.
