Project Summary:The AXNS Collective (Art X Neuroscience) aims to mount an event in Oxford to highlight the influence of neurological conditions on art. The event will include an exhibition called 'Affecting Perception' to display art influenced by neurological change, a series of seminars on neuroscience and 'neurological art', and workshops in Oxford schools to explore themes around neurology and neuroscience. The exhibition will be displayed for four weeks in the O3 gallery in Oxford to include:
- Art created by people with neurological conditions
- Displays on the structure and functions of the brain and on neurological disorders
- Sculpture and film installations by artists exploring neuroscience and discoveries therein
The talks will occur in cultural venues and community spaces in Oxford and will feature:
- Artists, neuroscientists and critics interested in 'neurological art'
- Dialogue with the audience
- Elaboration of the themes of the exhibition
- A focus on the influence of neurological change on art
The schools' workshops will aim to:
- Familiarize students with neurology through case studies of artists with neurological conditions
- Increase awareness of neurological disabilities and their implications for life and art
- Encourage student participation in the talks and the exhibition
