Biographical note
The Wellcome Trust's first Corporate Plan, published in October 2000, identified translation as one of Wellcome's four key aims. This aim was underpinned by two objectives: "Promoting patient-orientated research and health services research" and "advancing the dissemination and exploitation of the results of Trust-funded research".
In 2002 a new Technology Transfer initiative was established by Wellcome to handle all translational projects. Ted Biano was appointed as Director of this area.
