Church music reformed: or the art of psalmody universally explained unto all people. Containing, I. A new introduction to the grounds of music, teaching all the Rudiments thereof, in such a plain, familiar, and concise Method, as will enable most People, with a very little Trouble, to learn to sing the psalm-tunes correctly by Notes, according to Music, without the Help of a Master; also necessary Directions for pitching the tunes in their proper Keys; and a new Musical Dictionary. To which is prefixed a prefatory Discourse on the present Use of psal-mody; of the bad Performance of it in the Churches of London and Westminster, &c. Also of the new ludicrous Melodies composed by obsure Country Teachers of psalmody, which are daily creeping into Country Churches, with Reasons for laying those Tunes wholly aside, and for substituting a ̀̀set of proper Tunes, as have been best approved of by the best Masters of the last and present Age, with proper Hints for the general Improvement of Psalmody in public Worship, by one regular and uniform Manner of performing it in all Churches alike.
