What brought you to our website today?

Promotional booklet about chocolate manufacture in Fry's Somerdale factory. It is well illustrated showing the machinery, factory and workers. Sent out in an envelope bearing the title: "Your souvenir booklet of Somerdale" (Ephemera collection EPH91:8).

Full colour leaflet or magazine insert advertising Fry's pure concentrated cocoa. There are several medical people on the reverse stating how nutritious it is for invalids and children. The front shows an illustration of a young girl in a black smock feeding a baby with cocoa from a spoon, a dog looking on with interest. The infant is sitting in a high chair. The leaflet probably dates from about the early 1890s.

Fry's celebrated cocoa and chocolates / [J.S. Fry & Sons].

Magazine insert advertising Fry's chocolate and cocoa. Printed in black on yellow paper, with an illustration of their prize medal from an 1862 exhibition. The text promotes the cocoa's purity and nutritious qualities as being suitable for invalids and people of weak digestion, a claim backed up by Arthur Hilll Hassall, M.D. in 1860.

Fry's homoeopathic cocoa : manufactured by J.S. Fry & Sons, Bristol, and 252 City Road, London, chocolate and cocoa manufacturers by appointment to the Queen and Prince of Wales / Joseph Storrs Fry & Sons.

The text promotes the cocoa's nutritious qualities as being suitable for invalids, children and people of weak digestion, a claim backed up by Sir Charles A. Cameron, M.D. and W.H.R. Stanley, M.D.

Decorative envelope used by Fry's in the early 1930s. It has coats of arms above and below the text and the words "By appointment". This envelope was postmarked on 18 March 1932.

A hold-to-light print (possibly a magazine insert) with text around a thin oval containing an illustration of a girl with long dark hair and a fringe sitting on a wooden chair at a small table on which she is resting her right hand. Her eyes are closed. On the table is a tin of J.S. Fry & Sons' cocoa. When held to light a cup of steaming cocoa appears in the girl's hand, her eyes open wide and she smiles. These features are printed on the back and become visible with a light source behind.

Letterhead as used by Fry's in March 1932. It has 2 royal coats of arms ("by appointment") on it and a logo for the National Scheme for Disabled Men".
