Bible. Apocrypha. Judith. Judith, a beautiful Judean widow, infiltrates the camp of the Assyrian army that is besieging her city and seduces the chief captain, Holofernes. She beheads him after he has collapsed into a drunken sleep

The woman is bowed forwards as in ankylosing spondylitis; possibly also shown with a hunchback. In the background on the left the woman is seen bowing before Christ, who is surrounded by the leaders of the synagogue watching him suspiciously

Christ (marked "Medicus, Matth. 12") holds a glass heart containing a boar, a frog and another object, perhaps a bottle, all representing sins. The water emanating from his side into the sick woman's cup is labelled "Livore eius sanati sumus. Esai 53." A globe bearing a cross hovers next to the heart, marked "Fiat. Portans oia verbo virtutis suæ. Hebr. 1." A woman beneath it (marked "Matth. 0. Fides tua te salua fecit") holds a small crucifix and holds the sick woman's wrist
